25.

Twenty five.

I can’t even process that number correctly. Today, I am a quarter of a century old.
Twenty five years ago today my sweet and strong mom brought me into this world. Twenty five years ago today my dad held me in his arms and promised to protect and care for me. Twenty five years ago today my sister claimed me as her shee shee, a bond that wild never be broken.
I’m looking back at all the time and memories and I am so thankful for the people who have brought me to this place. The people who had to deal with me through the tough years. The people who taught me to love, not only myself, but others. The teachers who gave me more than just homework, they gave me hope for a brilliant future. The friends who became my extended family and the memories that come along with those moments.
So here’s my birthday toast to all of you and to the memories we’ve made. To the dancing queens, to bonfires and star gazing, to facing my fears, to playgrounds at midnight, to photo shoots, to Katy Perry, to stoop sitting, to the boy who bought me my first beer, to countless concerts, to Swedish fish, to made up car songs, to nicknames and laughter, to dancing in parking lots, to baseball games, to boo, to perfect lazy Sunday afternoons, to Nashville, to prayers and love.
Thank you everyone for these last 25 years. And thank you all for what is to come.
With all my heart and all my soul,

Andrea

Also… A very happy 25th birthday to my boo. My Nashville bestie and my favorite Arrested Development junkie, I miss you Mitch!
Drink like Lucille today.

My Little Pony(tail)

There has been a trend floating around the hair world for almost a year now. It’s aptly named the dip dye and obviously, I’m obsessed. I first learned about this gorgeous use of fun colors from Lauren Conrad and her blog The Beauty Department (I’ve linked to her original post, with full instructions on how to get gorgeous dip dyed locks.)

I actually tried this on my hair a few weeks ago and I couldn’t stop staring at it. The swirls of bright turquoise and purple had me completely mesmerized.  Since we decided against bleaching out the tips like Lauren did, the color faded a little faster than anticipated. But we gave it another go and this time we added pink to my turquoise and purple. The result; a dreamy My Little Pony, cotton candy, vibrant, gorgeous head of colorful hair.

And I’m in love.

For my hair, I’m lucky enough to have a hairstylist for a best friend (perk of life.) We were touching up my blonde highlights anyways, so the tone of my hair was already pretty light. Especially since it’s summer we upped the amount of blonde through the sections. Trust me, my colorist is a miracle worker.

We divided the hair section by section and took 1 inch pieces and painted the color on the bottom three or four inches of hair. Wrapped each individual section in foil and rotated each color. We let the color sit for a little longer than it said on the package just because we wanted it to saturate further.

We used Manic Panic in Atomic Turquoise and Purple Haze and Color Jamz in Raspberry Kamikazie from Sally Beauty Supply.

I would recommend using a color saving shampoo and rinsing with cool water; it will extend the life of your color a few days.

Obviously this isn’t a permanent hair decision, but it’s fun for the summer. Thankfully my workplace allows extreme hair colors so make sure you double-check with your own work before you take the plunge into this crazy color craze.

Summer 2012 Music Mix

My summer music mix is quite possibly my favorite one to create. There are so many songs that just make you think about sunsets and sunrises, bonfires with friends and driving with your windowns down. This summer already has given me some wonderful memories and it only just began. I know that there are many adventures yet to be had, trips to the beach, Harley rides and stargazing are all on my list for this summer.

1. “Anna Sun”- Walk the Moon
2. “Somethin’ ‘Bout a Truck”- Kip Moore
3. “Little Talks”- Of Monsters and Men
4. “Wide Awake”- Katy Perry
5. “Electric Feel”- MGMT
6. “Come Over”- Kenny Chesney
7. “Lost In My Mind”- The Head and the Heart
8. “The Freshmen”- Jay Brannan (cover)
9. “The Beauty and the Beat”- Justin Bieber feat. Nicki Minaj
10. “Shake It Out”- Florence + The Machine

How do I wear that? Crop top.

For the last few weeks I’ve been fashion obsessed over something I once again found on Pinterest. The crop top is back in, and it’s here to stay for a little bit. The skin baring style can be a little intimidating. Okay, extremely intimidating. This outfit I created truly only shows a peek of belly.

The trick to wearing this look is make it simple and keep the skirt a longer length. Be daring, try something new, work up the courage to rock an outfit like this.

Chevrons

Last week, I was feeling super ambitious with my weekly manicure, once again I was inspired by some nails that I saw on Pinterest. There wasn’t a link to the original post on Pinterest, so I had to make it up as I went along. So I decided that I’d try to my own tutorial for my new favorite mani.

They aren’t perfect, but I really love they way they turned out.

My arsenal for this manicure.

Step 1: Gold base coat. I didn’t have a good gold shimmer so I had to make due with a couple other colors I had. Wait a good 10 minutes for the first couple coats to dry before you put on the v-shaped sticker.

Step 2: I used the french manicure tracers to make the chevron. I used the straight line manicure guide and cut it in half, then I overlapped the two ends and created the v-shape.

Step 3: Place the guide on your nail.

Step 4: Paint above and below the lines whatever colors you’ve chosen.

Step 5: Slowly peel off the chevron, and pray that it works! For the demo, I didn’t wait long enough and it ended up looking sad and sloppy. But I’ll show you anyway…

Step 6: Wait. I’m for real, wait at least a half hour before you put on your topcoat. I had problems with the black streaking through the white when I put on the Seche.

I hope that this inspires some of you to get creative with your manicures. It really wasn’t that hard to do and once I figured out what worked and what didn’t it was pretty simple. I would definitely recommend trying out some other colors or maybe just doing the chevron as an accent nail.

Cotton Candy Nails

This nail polish is where my obsession started. Deborah Lippmann makes a gorgeous robin’s egg blue with blue and pink hex glitter in it. I saw it on pinterest, and I had to have it. Until I saw the 18 dollar price tag.

So the hunt was on. I had to find something similar, and then the heavens opened up, and dropped a beautiful dupe on the screen right in front of me. Revlon Whimsical.

I searched high and low for weeks on end, and I finally found the polish I wanted at my local Meijer (all you Midwestern girls can jump on this!) The color is super sheer, but I had a super franken blue that I put under it and it turned out exactly how I wanted it to. It looks like a birthday party on my fingers.

Winter 2012 Music Mix

A lot has changed since my last music mix. Definitely not my taste in music, but the kind of songs that I’ve been searching for and listening to are ones of empowerment and healing. Broken hearts mean less lovey-dovey music and more fierce and definitely sassy soundtracks.

1. “With Ur Love”- Cher Lloyd feat. Mike Posner
2. “Somebody That I Used To Know”- Gotye feat. Kimbra
3. “Swingin’ Door”- Eden’s Edge
4. “We Are Young”- Glee Cast (or Fun.; they’re both great versions)
5. “My Body”- Young the Giant K. Flay remix
6. “Young, Wild, and Free”- Snoop Dogg and Wiz Kalifa feat. Bruno Mars
7. “Safe and Sound”- Taylor Swift feat. The Civil Wars
8. “Four”- PINES
9. “Dear Rosemary”- Foo Fighters
10. “Wanted You More”- Lady Antebellum

Funky fingers

I have few different nail posts stacked up so I’m probably going to be posting one a day for a little bit. I’m trying out some new trends and definitely pushing the limits on what I can experiment with.

I love the vibrancy of the Revlon ColorStay nail polish, but the wear on it wasn’t the best. Typically my nails can look fresh up to a week without too much damage. But the blue started chipping after a couple days and even with my Seche top coat it ended up looking dull. Maybe I’ll try out another color in the line to see if I have better results; because the formula and application were basically flawless.

Nailed it!

I’ve always wanted to use that as a title. Nail art and nail polish have become an addiction of sorts for me over the last few months. I’ve polished my nails weekly and I currently have a job at a spa and salon so I really love seeing all of the new trends in the nail world.

Through my pinning adventures I’ve found a ton of lovely polish blogs. Full of young ladies who are as addicted as I am. If not more so. I wanted to take my own crack at showing off what I love and my ever-developing polish skills. I’ve figured out quite quickly that I have a tendency to flood my cuticles and pick at the skin around my nails. Don’t hold that against me. I’m a reformed nail biter.

Pinteresting…..

I like many other people have found a new obsession within the last few months. Pinterest.
I like to refer to it as a tumblr on crack. You create boards, much like cork boards, of things that you are interested in. I have some that range from recipes, travel spots, fashion ideas, to future tattoo inspiration.
Through Pinterest I’ve learned that there are many creative ideas floating around in the world that I had absolutely no idea existed. I’ve found new things that I love, fun adventures to look for, outfits to swoon over and trends to watch. Just about every person I’ve introduced to this ridiculously addicting website has within minutes gone on their very own pinning spree.
Pinterest has inspired me so much that I want to start my blog up again. Using the things that I have pinned as topics for my lonely little blog.
So here it goes. Another attempt to revive Sass and Class. Here’s hoping that this one sticks.
